The starry sky of the High Alps

The starry sky of the High Alps

An eco-responsible campsite located in the heart of the Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park, Campsite les Hauts de Rosans benefits from a unique environmental setting, where nature is in the spotlight day and night. A 4-star quality campsite, it offers its holidaymakers the opportunity to contemplate without moderation those that dot the marvellous night sky of the Hautes-Alpes.

The Hautes-Alpes: unspoilt landscapes and sky

The Hautes-Alpes department is a constant defender of its panorama and its precious biodiversity, and a great protector of its skies. Considered as one of the most beautiful in Europe, the sky of the High Alps presents a remarkable purity and transparency, carefully preserved from industrial and light pollution. These qualities, combined with the predominantly sunny weather and high altitude, offer the opportunity to lose oneself in the evening in a long and perfect stellar contemplation.
Faced with tourist offers which often rely on commercial mass tourism and expensive activities, the High Alps stand out by proposing to come back to the simple and essential things: enjoy a convivial dinner with family or friends, a bucolic walk or a romantic stroll under a glittering and fairy sky! Moments of pure beauty and poetry which will remain engraved in the mind of each one.
Contemplating the stars from afar... or closer !

With a geographical situation and settings very favourable to the observation of stars, stars or planets, the High Alps are the Mecca of French astronomy. Prestigious research and reception centres such as the Observatoire du Plateau de Bure in the heart of the Vallée de la Lumière or that of the Pic de Château Renard, the highest observatory in France perched at 3000m altitude, in the Queyras valley where it is nicely said that "the cocks peck the stars". These centres provide their public with professional telescopes or organise multimedia animations revealing the mysterious secrets of the sky.

Situated less than 10 minutes by car from Les Hauts de Rosans Campsite, the Observatory of the Baronnies Provençales is also an open window on the sky. Dedicated to the observation and discovery of our often little-known nocturnal heritage, it offers visits, themed introductory courses in astronomy and long evenings in the company of the stars. Magical moments for young and old alike!

Unpublished events to have your head in the stars !

Betting on tourism that is both close to nature and educational, the department of High Alps regularly organises astronomical events that put the stars in the spotlight. Many events are jointly organized by the Observatory of the Baronnies Provençales and the High Alps School of Astronomy : des Nuits ou Week-ends Étoilés, des Stages Étoile, des Immersions astronomiques or the very popular Nuit des Étoiles, organised this year from 03 to 05 August.

Nature lovers, astronomy enthusiasts or poetic souls: don't hesitate to make the High Alps your next holiday destination!
